The beach at Whitehaven is made up of sand and pebbles and is a popular spot for fishing. The beach is quite small and is sheltered by the harbour walls of the port. Whitehaven is also a popular location for fossil hunting, both the foreshore and cliffs yield several types of plant fossils including Calamites.

The beach is backed by the town of Whitehaven where there are car parks, cafes, pubs and restaurants. Whitehaven also holds regular Maritime Festivals.
